Environmental Science Field Trips

Rosebud Continuum, a premier sustainability education and research center, is now accepting bookings for the 2025-2026 school year. Our transformative field trip experiences are designed to engage K-12 students in environmental science, earth science, and sustainability education through hands-on exploration and real-world applications.

Three Unique Field Trip Experiences

Looking for a fun and engaging field trip where your students can discover a world of sustainable innovation and sustainable living, witness regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more? Then, Rosebud is your next field trip destination!

Rosebud Continuum provides an environmental science focused field trip for students K-12, where they learn about diverse topics regarding sustainability. We have demonstration projects for each topic where they can witness in person each technology. Field trips can be tailored to specific topics to enhance your grade’s curriculum. Rosebud's living laboratories provide students with authentic learning experiences that connect academic concepts to real-world environmental challenges and solutions. (For a more detailed description of each project, see list below)

1. Indigenous Knowledge, Culture, and Traditions with Kansas Middletent

Rosebud Continuum will host Kansas Middletent from October 13-17, 2025 for exclusive presentations on indigenous culture and the interconnectedness of humans and nature.

Kansas is Lakota Sioux and brings authentic indigenous perspectives and traditional ecological knowledge to help students understand the deep connections between cultural wisdom and environmental stewardship.

He started a program called Rising Stars that focuses on recognizing and supporting young, talented individuals within the Lakota (also known as Sioux) community. It highlights achievements in various fields like academics, arts, sports, and community leadership. The phrase also appears to be associated with a sense of community pride and empowerment for the next generation of Lakota people.

2. Native Trail Micro Forest Field Trip Experience

Students embark on an educational journey through Rosebud Continuum's carefully restored micro forest, where conservation efforts come alive before their eyes. This immersive experience showcases Rosebud’s ongoing work to systematically remove invasive plant species and restore native Florida ecosystems. Students witness firsthand the principles of ecological restoration while discovering Florida's diverse native flora and fauna in their natural habitat.

"The Native Trail offers students the rare opportunity to see environmental science and conservation in action," said Ericka Leigh, Director at Rosebud Continuum. "Students don't just read about conservation—they walk through a living laboratory where they can observe the direct impact of restoration efforts on local ecosystems."

This field trip is accompanied by a scavenger hunt identifying native plant species and companion planting for a memorable learning experience.

3. Field Trip of Sustainability Demonstrations in Action

Educators can customize their visit by selecting up to 3 focus areas from the menu of sustainability demonstrations below. Each demonstration is designed to reinforce classroom learning through practical application:

  • Aquaponics Systems: Students explore the symbiotic relationship between fish and plants in sustainable food production

  • Solar and Renewable Energy: Hands-on demonstrations of clean energy technologies and their environmental benefits

  • Advanced Gardening Techniques: From food forests to soil building through composting, students learn sustainable agriculture practices

  • Indigenous Knowledge: Traditional ecological wisdom and sustainable practices of native communities

  • Glass and Plastic Recycling: Understanding waste reduction and circular economy principles

Curriculum Connections

All field trip experiences are specifically designed to support state standards in environmental science and earth science education. Students gain deeper understanding of:

  • Ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity

  • Human impact on natural systems

  • Sustainable resource management

  • Symbiotic relationships in nature

  • Climate change mitigation strategies

  • Conservation biology principles

The 2024-2025 school year…

In the 2024-2025 school year, we welcomed over 400 students from Pasco, Hillsborough, and Hernando Counties. We hope to see YOU this school year!

Field trips are $15 per student and chaperone (free for teachers). However, we have a field trip subsidy program for low-income and Title 1 schools, so please reach out to us if you need assistance.

Group Tours

Educational tours are available to everyone! Homeschool groups, groups of families and friends, clubs, or companies!

The tours follow the same topics as the school field trips where we educate and share all demonstration projects on site. Tours can also be tailored to specific topics and timeframes. Contact us for more information!

VOLUNTEERING

We provide volunteer opportunities every Saturday where we strive to create an enriching and learning environment. Through unstructured conversations, we share what we do and why we do it. We open the floor for volunteers to share their own expertise too so we learn from each other.
