Precious Plastics Project: Turning everyday waste into unique goods.
With nothing more than a panini press and a pile of discarded plastic bottle caps, we started CapCycle Creations, a grassroots effort to give plastic a second life. As two college students who believe that even the smallest action can spark meaningful change. Today, we transform bottle caps into colorful magnets and keychains, turning everyday waste into something useful and eye-catching.
We have a plastic problem.
Every day, millions of plastic bottle caps are thrown away, small pieces of waste that often escape recycling systems and end up polluting our environment. We’ve decided to act. By collecting these caps and transforming them into colorful magnets and keychains, we’re giving plastic a second life while raising awareness of the problem.
But this is just the beginning. Our long-term goal is to invest in a plastic sheet press. With this tool, we could repurpose bottle caps into larger, functional projects such as tiles, furniture, wall panels, or even construction materials. This shift allows us not only to keep more plastic out of landfills but also to create durable, useful items that demonstrate the power of community-driven recycling. It is an effort to tackle plastic waste by empowering people to recycle and repurpose plastic locally.
This journey is important because it shows that waste isn’t waste until we waste it. By starting small with bottle cap magnets and keychains, we’re building both the resources and the community support needed to grow. Together, we can prove that creativity and grassroots action can make a real dent in the plastic problem.
